We want to let you in on a little secret. Some weeks the Action Update is harder to write than others. It’s not because there’s a lack of information, but rather because for certain events, capturing the sheer magnitude of it all is elusive. So, we’d ask you to bear with us this week, because we’re mad, we’re heartbroken and we’ve never been prouder to stand with Israel.

Evil

Last week, Rep. Ilhan Omar doubled down on previous comments drawing an equivalence between Israel’s actions to defend itself against the serial murderers and terrorists of Hamas, and the actions of the serial murderers and terrorists of Hamas. She also accused Jewish Democrat leaders of not being “partners in justice.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar is an antisemite. She has a personal animosity towards Jewish people and their state. Like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and former Rep. Steve King, she should not be in a position to impact key decisions directly impacted by her bigotry. In other words, House Democratic Leaders, should remove Rep. Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Truth is, they should’ve done it a while ago. Rep. Omar has trafficked in antisemitism for years, including her infamous comment that “Israel has hypnotized the world…” Yes, she eventually, sort of apologizes for whatever hate comes from her mouth, but turns around and finds a new way to express that hatred that exists in her heart. She’s a bigot and Speaker Pelosi needs to live up to the standard she set for GOP leadership and deal with Rep. Omar, if not for the good of Democratic party or the House of Representatives, perhaps for the good of the country.

Tragic

Not long after Rep. Omar was spewing more hatred towards the Jewish state, Israeli technical Search and Rescue and Trauma Therapy teams arrived at the site of the tragic collapse of the Surfside Condominium in Miami. As of this writing, 121 people are still missing in this horrific tragedy. Our fervent prayers are with all those impacted by this devastating tragedy.

Israel’s actions remind us that you truly know who your friends are not on the good days but on the bad. Israel is there because Israel is our friend.

This is not the first time Israel has been there to help the US out in difficult times. From sending an airlift of supplies in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, to sending to teams to provide assistance after the 2013 Oklahoma tornadoes, Israel is there when the American people need an ally.

Good

And it’s not just Americans who can rely on Israel’s expertise and humanity to be at their side in the hardest moments of their lives. Israel’s Operation Good Neighbor saved the lives of countless Syrian civilians during that nation’s brutal civil war. Israeli efforts in the wake of the 2004 tsunami to hit Sri Lanka and Indonesia, the 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti and the 2011 earthquake that so dramatically impacted Japan, among many others, have earned the Jewish state the title of “the world’s first responder.”

But the truth is that the greatest beneficiaries of Israeli humanitarian largess are the Palestinians – in particular the Palestinians of Gaza. While their terrorist-rulers use what humanitarian aid they can to continuously increase their terrorist infrastructure, Israel’s sends countless convoys of humanitarian aid into Israel every year. In fact, the IDF even did so in the midst of the most recent conflict with Hamas – but those border crossings had to be closed after terrorists shelled the relief convoys with mortars (wounding one Israeli soldier).

Now perhaps you can see why it’s so difficult to write this week’s update. Are there words that appropriately articulate what a disgusting and bigoted abomination it is for Rep. Ilhan Omar to compare Israel to Hamas? Is there a way to capture on paper the heart and soul of a country that despite all its challenges is first to raise its hand and say if you’re in trouble, we’ll be there to help? The answer to both of these questions is likely “no.” But we can you provide you the facts, and we will continue to do so each and every week.

Sincerely,
